Grand Teton Sweetgrass APA

Grand Teton Brewing Co.   Victor, ID

Notes:
American Pale Ale
12oz Bottle
6.0% ABV
60 IBUs

Appearance:  Pours a cloudy, deep autumn orange…tons of fluffy, cream colored head that is lasting…doesn’t look a bit watery, very inviting…(4.5/5)

Smell:  All that luscious head covers up most of the aroma, however, afterward I catch whiffs of citrus, earthy, piney hops and sweet/pale malts…(4/5)

Taste:  Pale malt beginning…citrus, piney and floral hops do come through in the middle…this isn’t like the normal APA I’ve tried…sweet, pale malt carries through much of the flavor while the hops are playing a complimentary role…with that said, there is lemon, pine and floral hops in the later stages…hops resin all over my tongue…yum!  (4/5)

Mouthfeel:  Light body, with plenty of carbonation…fluff brings some lemon zest and hops bitterness to my tongue, very tasty…it’s crisp, smooth and refreshing...some citrus/floral hops bitterness in the after taste…(4/5)

Overall:  It’s a nice surprise (or deviation) from the classic, citrus hop heavy west coast pale ales that are coming out now…the sweet pale malts are flavorful and the citrus/piney hops do bring a nice zest to the situation…really, a nicely worked beer that is very drinkable…in a perfect world, I’d drag a sixer of this around with me while playing a round disc golf and be very happy…tasty! (4/5)

Score:

 (4.06/5)
