Brooklyn Brewery Brooklyn, NY
Notes:
Barley Wine Ale
12oz Bottle
10.1% ABV
Appearance: A
deep copper…tons of bubbles on the inside…pinky width, khaki colored head
remains…(4/5)
Smell: Carmel
flavor stands out initially…very sweet malt notes, maybe some fruit notes mixed
in there as well…the alcohol resonates with a deeper intake…(3.75/5)
Taste: Carmel
and sweet as the smell predicted…very nice malt flavor…toffee residuals…can
taste the alcohol…does have a hoppy bitter aftertaste…it’s kinda strong…(3.75/5)
Mouthfeel:
Moderate carbonation…it comes in like a lion and ends real bitter and
alcoholly…medium body that does disappear rather quickly…(3.5/5)
Overall: A
strong barley wine, a category I don’t often delve too far into…it’s got good
flavor and the hops does balance out the malts real well…the strong alcohol
does dominate a bit too much for my liking, leaving me light on flavor but
heavy on a buzz…it’s good for a poker night with the buddies if you don’t want
to remember what hold cards you have…(3.5/5)
Score:
(3.70/5)
