Notes:
Belgian Farmhouse Ale
12oz Bottle (brewed 5/22/12, drank 12/17/12)
6.0% ABV
Appearance:
Pours a deep and very dark purplish brown (I hesitate to call it black)…some
light khaki colored head formed and lasted…I can see some bubble action along
the glass…nice…(4/5)
Smell: Yeast,
caramel, cream, malt, very fruity (apple, pear)…(4/5)
Taste: Roasted
malt beginning…tons of Belgium yeast present as well…there is a bit of bite
that I assume is the peppercorn influence…a little bready in the middle with some
fig and fruit sweetness…some lemon zest way deep…there’s also a bit of
earthiness to the whole flavor…(4/5)
Mouthfeel: Medium
to full body…tons of carbonation, typical Belgium in that way…it’s got a fresh,
lively, smooth feel with a somewhat dry finish…there is a hint of lemon in the
after taste…(4/5)
Overall: Belgium’s
are always a lively beer with all the bubbles and typically higher ABV and this
one fits that bill...nice flavor, robust yeast and malt and fruitiness…very
drinkable…tons of carbonation and fluff help make this a wonderful drinking experience…let’s
hope this one isn’t affected by the sale of the brewery and remains a Chicago classic…gonna
have to find one of these for the cellar…highly recommended for your
consumption…(4/5)
Score:
(4.00/5)
