Green Man IPA

Green Man Brewery   Asheville, NC

Notes:
English IPA
12oz Bottle
6.0% ABV

Appearance:  Pours an orangish amber color…a really nice hue, fairly transparent, I see tons of bubble action in the middle…mother of pearl head is a thick stack of tiny bubbles forming about a pinky finger in width…a really nice looking brew…(4.5/5)

Smell:  Yum! A nice aroma here…it’s got a very woodsy, earthy and slightly musky tone but there’s a noticeable fruit cocktail sweetness that keeps it from going over the edge for me…English yeast is also prevalent…while I can’t say that it’s too diverse, what it has is nice…(3.75/5)

Taste:  Hmmm…very much like the nose, earthy, woodsy with a touch of musky yeast…there’s a rye, malty bite after the initial taste that takes over the flavor and lends to the earthy bitterness/earthy malt that follow…there’s a peachy fruit sweetness in the background that rounds out the taste…it really does finish much like it starts, with a earthy bitterness that coats the tongue…(4/5)

Mouthfeel:  Light to medium body with medium carbonation…it fluffs up bringing earthy hoppy bitterness to the palate…a hoppy creaminess lingers into the after taste…a hoppy bitterness sticks on the tongue, leaving a very nice flavor…yum! (4/5)

Overall:  I’m very impressed with this brew…I’ve had it before at their restaurant, but not out of the bottle and it’s translated well in mass production…beers typically of this IPA style I find too pungent with earthy/musky bitterness and English yeast, but there’s something about this one that is different…the drinkability is fantastic, this will definitely become one of my staple brews in the fridge…Green Man sells growlers and that is what I’d recommend buying…a fantastic brew that will bring a happy buzz while throwing 18 at Richmond Hills…thank goodness for summer! (4.25/5)

Score:
(4.03/5)
