Shmaltz & Terrapin Reunion Ale '12

Shmaltz & Terrapin Brewing Co's

Notes:
American Strong Ale
22oz Bottle
8.0% ABV

Appearance:  Pours almost an auburn brown…very dense, not transparent at all…nice bubbly khaki colored head that seems to be remain a bit...lots of great carbonation here…(4/5)

Smell:  Sweet candy smell, kinda like a child’s cold medicine, but in a good way…vanilla accent in there…liquid cinnamon once my nose really gets in there…(3.75/5)

Taste:  Sweet, very candy cinnamon sweet…the vanilla adds a bit of creaminess to the flavor while the malts are more of a delivery service than very resonant…the cinnamon is very lasting, almost too lasting as there are very few other flavors…the higher alcohol gives a bit of medicine taste…unfortunately, the cocoa is not fully represented here…(2.75/5)

Mouthfeel:  Light body with lots of carbonation…it’s like a cotton candy factory in my mouth…cinnamon alcohol after taste…(3.5/5)

Overall:  This is an interesting concoction, that’s for sure…if the cinnamon was dialed back just a little bit and maybe add a bit more cocoa, this would be a lot more drinkable…the flavor is very unique, something I’ve never even come close to tasting before, but that doesn’t necessarily means it’s superior…it’s still just good, but unique…I like trying stuff that I may never see again and this definitely falls into that category…(2.5/5)

Score:

(3.4/5)
