Terrapin W-n-B Coffee Oatmeal Imperial Stout

Terrapin Brewing Co.   Athens, GA

Notes:
Imperial Stout
12oz Bottle
8.1% ABV

Appearance:  Pours the darkest brown possible…a deep mocha colored head forms but not much remains over time…it looks nice, but the lack of head is unfortunate…(3.65/5)

Smell:  Aroma galore!  Oatmeal, milk chocolate, roasted malts, creamy vanilla and roasted coffee bitterness…tons of roasted notes…I get a touch of alcohol heat, otherwise this is full of malty goodness…I’m not getting to much hops presence…very oatmeal heavy…inviting…(4.25/5)

Taste:  Yum!  Mild, roasted coffee bitterness, oatmeal, milk chocolate, roasted malts…it’s a fantasy ride through all the best stout varieties, full of richness and flavor…there’s the noticeably deep, roasted quality about the flavor that tends to come with “imperial” stouts…it’s creamy without tasting like vanilla…dark, deep and robust…(4/5)

Mouthfeel:  Full bodied…light to medium carbonation brings creamy roasted coffee bitterness to the palate, which linger…rich, chewy and dark…roasted malts and oatmeal show in after taste…(4/5)

Overall:  This is a wonderful brew…it has tons of flavor and tremendous sip-ability…the lack of vanilla cream keeps this a robust imperial stout, though I think a touch of milk would smooth things over, adding to the overall package…as it is, Terrapin has another fantastic beer here, worthy of a snifter and a good hour…the residual coffee flavor and caffeine boost has left me feeling like i've had an espresso shot...i don't recommend opening one of these late in the evening...(3.75/5)

Score:
(3.99/5)
