Widmer Bros. Drifter Pale Ale

Widmer Brothers Brewing Co.   Portland, OR

Notes:

American Pale Ale
12oz Bottle
5.7% ABV
32 IBUs

Appearance:  Pours an awesome, bright copper color…fairly transparent, there are a few bubbles in the middle…no real lasting head to speak of…(3.5/5)

Smell:  Pale malts all over this…piney and citrus aroma…grapefruit and orange notes…very inviting…(3.5/5)

Taste:  Malt backbone, very sweet, bready and pale…summit hops does bring some citrus flavor (orange and grapefruit) to balance out the party…not overly bitter or floral, a straight up, citrus and floral light, west coast pale ale…(3.5/5)

Mouthfeel:  light to medium body…sweet malt beginning that gives way to some citrus (orange and grapefruit) flavors…ends sorta bready with very little bitterness…it’s not watery, but does come and go very smoothly…medium carbonation that doesn’t last long and really is the only source of bitterness…(3.5/5)

Overall:  The flavor isn’t exotic by any means, but is very good…solid malt strains mixed with the summit and nelson sauvin hops creates a tasty brew that can be drank all day if required…there really isn’t too much bitterness in the after taste which helps in this brews drinkability…bordering on “extra” pale ale territory, the hop choice does prevent that, providing adequate citrus and pine flavor to balance out the super pale malt…get this and enjoy! (3.5/5)

Score:

(3.5/5)
