Summit Brewing Co. St. Paul, MN
Notes:
Belgian Abbey Ale
12oz Bottle
8.0% ABV
8.0% ABV
Appearance: Pours a deep amber color, with no transparency...classic Belgian, light
tan head about a pinky finger thick…some bubble action on the glass, but
nothing serious…(3.5/5)
Smell: Sweet,
caramel malt beginning…yeast, spices, bread, dark cherries…tons of different
things going on here…not overly or overtly hoppy…(3.75/5)
Taste: Dark,
sweet, fruity, caramel, bready and a bit alcoholly…much like the smell, there’s
a lot going on here…caramel, cherry, fig, sweet malt, bread malt, hops, alcohol
and a bit of clove...a little like a barley wine style…brown sugar all the way
through...clove spice on my lips in the after taste…yum! (4/5)
Mouthfeel:
Medium bodied with medium carbonation…Sweet, creamy with a little malt
heaviness…alcohol rises and falls with sip…spice-filled after taste…(3.75/5)
Overall: This
is a solid beer…tons of aroma and flavor…very drinkable…I’d call this a classic
Belgian that’s done right…it’s not watery, without being syrupy…it’s higher in
ABV without too much heat…spices, malt and sweetness all compliment each other
creating a superb drinking experience…great for a Saturday night poker run…will
definitely buy this again and highly recommend it…(4/5)
