Three Floyds Toxic Revolution

Three Floyds Brewing Co.   Munster, IN

Notes:
American Imperial Stout
22oz Bomber
8.5% ABV
40 IBU

Appearance:  Pours a dark, dark brown to black…head is thick, luscious and a khaki color...tons of foam stuck to the glass…a good looking brew…(4.5/5)

Smell:  A very inviting aroma with tons of flavor…has a light citrus (orange, mandarin, tangerine) and resinous pine bite balanced nicely by roasted malts, dry milk chocolate, and a mild creaminess…toffee, caramel and oatmeal are apparent as well…it’s got a rich, chocolate desert aroma that becomes more prominent as it warms…tons going on here…(4.25/5)

Taste:  Follows the nose, tons of orange citrus hops flavor balanced well by roasted, dry milk chocolate and coffee bitterness…I’m also getting some oatmeal, piney resin bite and a nice creaminess…it’s got a strong flavor without feeling heavy…very well balanced, flavor is fresh and lively while bringing tons of roasted malt…(4.25/5)

Mouthfeel: Light to medium body with light carbonation…it fluffs up bringing mild roasted chocolate malt and light coffee bitterness, but it’s a bit light (watery) on the palate…roasted malts cover the outside of my tongue…a piney bite with mild bitterness lingers in the after taste…(3.75/5)

Overall:  This is a fantastic brew…a combination of stout and ale, it’s got tons of malt flavor with 3 Floyds patented citrus hops vibe…the body is light and but still brings a touch of roubustness, which I like…it really drinks more like a black IPA than an imperial stout, but there is a bold coffee bitterness that maybe takes it to the “stout” level…anyway, the ABV is perfect, one bomber is great for an evening of enjoying your favorite comedies on Hulu...super drinkable, this brew will be enjoyed by stout fans, malt fans and hop heads alike…3 Floyds does it again! This is a wonderful beer that’s highly recommended…(4.5/5)

Score:
(4.19/5)
