Big Sky Slow Elk

Big Sky Brewing Co.   Missoula, MT

Notes:
Oatmeal Stout
12oz Bottle
5.4% ABV

Appearance:  Pours the darkest brown possible…awesome, thick khaki colored head…very inviting! (3.75/5)

Smell:  Rich oatmeal and chocolate aromas right off the bat…roasted malts, cream, toffee, caramel, dark fruits, subtle coffee and sweet malts…(3.5/5)

Taste:  Fantastic oatmeal and chocolate flavor up front…somewhat watery, the roasted malt delivers a solid flavor that is balanced out by earthy, grassy hops…creamy, milky, mildly smoky, mildly woody, a bit of brown sugar…tons of flavor going on here…it’s a bit watery which does wash the taste away rather quickly leaving a light, chocolate/oatmeal bitter after taste…(2.5/5)

Mouthfeel:  Light to medium body…smooth…there is light carbonation that does fluff up, but because it’s a bit watery, it washes away quickly…there isn’t much to this…mildly dry finish…(2/5)

Overall:  It’s good, not great…the smell is nice, but the flavor is washed out by it’s watery consistency…I have to say I was a bit let down by that…if there was more flavor and thickness, this brew would be a lot better…as it is, it’s an average oatmeal stout that I would probably never venture towards again…(2/5)

Score:

 (2.75/5)
