Boulevard Nut Cracker Ale

Boulevard Brewing Co.   Kansas City, MO

Notes:
Christmas Ale
12oz Bottle
7.8% ABV

Appearance:  Pours a deep, dark copper color…some head and a few bubbles on the inside…head doesn’t last long…(3/5)

Smell:  Sweet candy smell, some dark fruits…cinnamon and nutmeg…deep malt base…some brown sugar and caramel…some alcohol aroma…(3.5/5)

Taste:  Sweet candy, cinnamon, brown sugar, some floral bitterness and a sweet malt finish…flavors are very balanced…there is a bit of alcohol heat, but not too bad…a full flavored brew, cinnamon in the after taste…(3.5/5)

Mouthfeel:  Medium bodied with medium carbonation…little bitterness…there is some astringent flavors on the palette…(4/5)

Overall:  A very drinkable beer…Christmas or winter brews like this can find themselves off balance very quickly, too sweet or too much cinnamon, but this one doesn’t suffer that fate…the malty base is solid and tasty on it’s own….the sweet candy and spice send sugar plums dancing in my head…a fantastic blend of spices, malts and hops create a balanced and flavorful beer worth a try…(3/5)

Score:

 (3.50/5)
