Hi-Wire Contortionist B.I.P.A.

Hi-Wire Brewing Co.   Asheville, NC

Notes:
Black I.P.A.
12oz Bottle
6.0% ABV
84 IBU

Appearance:  Pours an extremely dark brown…very dense looking brew…head is wispy and a light mocha color…could have a bit more life, looks fairly standard…(3.5/5)

Smell:  A soft aroma at first, it really took me a few good sniffs to start detecting all that’s going on here…roasted malts up front, I’m also getting a light smattering of oatmeal and dry chocolate…maybe just a hint of lactose sweetness…hops come through in the second phase bringing a nice piney bite and a touch of grassy bitterness…(3.5/5)

Taste:  Creamy, roasted malts up front with a touch of oatmeal dryness…hops are flavorful, but don’t necessarily come with a ton of bitterness…I’m picking up resinous pine, light orange zest and a hint of grassiness…very well balanced…(3.75/5)

Mouthfeel:  Light to medium body…this brew has little carbonation and doesn’t bring much fluff to the palate…a small disappointment…while being light and creamy, the flavor does linger well after I swallow…a nice, mellow roasted malty blanket lays across my tongue leaving me wanting more…(3.5/5)

Overall:  Yum! While this isn’t anything that will blow socks off, the flavor is very drinkable and pleasant and very well balanced…it’s one of those brews that goes well with a night in with the misses while watching comedies on hulu…it would also go well with a board game…Hi-Wire is making some solid brews and this is another in the line…recommended for craft beer drinkers, find this at your local bottle shop and enjoy! (3.75/5)

Score:
(3.61/5)
