Two Brothers Cane & Ebel

Two Brothers Brewing Co.   Warrenville, IL

Notes:
Red Rye Ale
12oz Bottle
7.0% ABV

Appearance: Pours a deep caramel brown…off white head did form about a finger widththick and settled to a slightly thinner layer…a good lookin’ brew…(4/5)

Smell:  Pepperyrye up front…also some sweetness, caramel, floral notes and a touch ofcitrus…there’s an earthy, mustiness happening here…it’s nice, but it’s notoverwhelming…(3.75/5)

Taste:  Sweet, earthy, caramel maltiness up front, much more than I would have expected…there’s adefinite sugary sweetness that isn’t strong, just noticeable…after the initialflavors, this brew really dives into the hops and rye…peppery rye bite comesout, nicely balanced by citrus/piney hops…slightly resinous feel…there’s somebready qualities to the flavor as well…peppery rye/piney bitterness into theafter taste…a very hoppy rye ale…(4/5)

Mouthfeel: Light to medium body, plenty of carbonation…it fluffs up bringing tonsof sweet, slightly peppery maltiness to the palate…there’s a mild touch ofresin/syrup feel…finishes very smoothly, doesn’t linger too far, but leaves anearthiness behind…(3.85/5)

Overall:  I’m abig fan of Two Brothers, partly because I like supporting small, independentbusinesses, but mostly because they make very drinkable beer and Cane and Ebelis another example of that…with super flavor and a medium ABV (7%), i definitely could drink a few of these in a sitting and not bat an eye…this isdefinitely worth picking up if you see it in your local, independent beer store or if you’re traveling through the Chicagoland area…Two Brothers strikes again!(4/5)

Score:
(3.91/5)
